CONFERENCE

The 2019 International Humanitarian Conference is part of MERCY Malaysia's 20 Years Anniversary programs. The focus of the conference revolves around current humanitarian action trends and their implications for the people at the core of humanitarian work. How can we successfully advocate for action that supports the most vulnerable? How can humanitarian work help to save lives, protect sustainable development and promote peacebuildingin the larger context of community and resilience? At the same time recognizing their fundamental human rights, irrespective of political interests.

 

The conference will bring together leading humanitarian thinkers from around the world to discuss agenda revolves around current humanitarian action trends and their implications for the people at the core of humanitarian work. This is the opportunity for humanitarian practitioners, academics, government, non-government and private sector stakeholders to come together over three days of discussions, lectures, panels, case studies, and networking to debate and discuss some of the critical challenges and opportunities for the humanitarian system in the region and globally.

 

 

DRIVING COHERENT HUMANITARIAN ACTIONS

 

The frequency of disasters is growing for the past 20 years, with a marked rise in climate-related disasters and this trend is expected to remain as the major threat to mankind and nature in next one to two decades.

 

With the current trends in increasing conflicts, war and violence in many fragile states, and poverty is on the rise, increasing people’s vulnerabilities, the 2019 International Humanitarian Conference will address these critical issues through various thematic clusters, which include:

 

  1. Health and medical relief;

  2. Building resilience, climate change adaptation, and disaster risk reduction;

  3. Shelter, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), rehabilitation and reconstruction, build-back-better;

  4. Displacement, conflict, protection, migration and humanitarian law.

 

Cross-cutting themes which add to the complexity of humanitarian needs and actions will be discussed, among others:

 

  1. City/urban resilience, urbanization, resilient infrastructure, risk-informed development, sustainable development;

  2. Mental health and psychosocial support;

  3. Gender, equality, social inclusion;

  4. Innovative humanitarian financing;

  5. Humanitarian leadership;

  6. Cohesion in global agendas and commitments;

  7. Humanitarian diplomacy;

  8. Innovation in humanitarian actions;

      and many others.

However, if the Ticket Holder are unable to attend the Conference for any reason the Ticket Holder may email the Organizer at [email protected] to provide the Organizer with the name of a substitute to attend the conference on behalf.

  • All payments for the workshop ticket must be made in full at the time of completing the registration form or prior to the date of the conference. 

  • The Organizer reserves the right, without refund or compensation, to refuse admission/evict any person(s) whose conduct is disorderly or inappropriate.

  • The Organizer may add, withdraw or substitute artistes and/or vary advertised programmes, event times, seating arrangements, audience capacity without prior notice.

  • The Organizer may use the event photos or visual that may contains ticket holder’s image or likeness in any live or recorded video display, picture, publicity material or website.

  • The Ticket Holder voluntarily assumes all risks and danger incidental to the event whether occurring prior to, during or subsequent to the actual event, including any death, personal injury, loss, damage, or liability.

  • Malaysia law shall govern the sale of all tickets and Ticket Holder agrees to submit to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Malaysia court.
