The Penang Arts Council presents Quartets & Quintets from the Penang Symphony Orchestra, Musica Sinfonietta, the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra, the Elysian Ensemble and the Mazagran Singers for an afternoon of contemporary and classical chamber music.

About the Performers
The Penang Symphony Orchestra String Quartet consists of Tann Soon Pin (violin), Lee Chye Guan (violin), Rebekah Yuen Su-Ping (viola) and Deborah Yuen Su Jiun (cello). The Penang Symphony Orchestra is a non-profit organisation founded in 1987 and funded by donations, which aims to promote classical music to the general public and develop the orchestral skills of young musicians. Their website is www.penangsymphony.org.my. Due to pandemic restrictions the PSO has been unable to meet to rehearse or perform since early 2020.
The Mazagran Singers consist of Noor Afifa Mohd Hanafiah (soprano), Tan Sin Yan (soprano), Olena Gurzhii (alto), Loh Chun Han (tenor) and Joel Lim Du Bois (bass), accompanied by Tan Jin Yin on the piano, and in one piece Kang Su Kheng on the Rebana.
The Musica Sinfonietta String Quartet is composed of Isaac Yap (Violin), Natasha Heather Chow (Violin), Celia Lim (Viola) and Lo Mei Yoke (Cello). When Kang Su Kheng joins them on the Rebana joins for one piece, they perform as the Musica Sinfonietta Peranakan Ensemble, whose debut performance at Cheong Fatt Tze during 2021’s Penang’s Peranakan Festival was an enormous success. Musica Sinfonietta is a Penang-based orchestra, which was founded in 2010, and has made a name for itself since, especially for its community outreach programmes, its focus on the musical education of young players, and its charitable activities. The Elysian Ensemble is a group of Penang-based music professionals who perform occasional chamber concerts. Performing today are Lee Chye Guan (violin), Peter Lo (violin), Kang Su Kheng (piano), Ong Yong Hang (French horn), and Chee Hui Hui (clarinet). The Penang Philharmonic Orchestra Trombone Quartet features four experienced brass players from the orchestra: Lee Chee Yean, Ong Aun Guan, Delvan Khor and Tan Tihn Chern. Established in 2010, the Penang Philharmonic Orchestra is an amateur orchestra funded by the State of Penang. www.penangphilharmonic.org/orchestra. Due to pandemic restrictions the full orchestra has been unable to perform in public since early 2020, but it has recorded a number of virtual concerts that can be watched on their youtube channel.
