Introduction
Punch Needle is a form of embroidery, worked with a special tool called a Punch Needle that creates loops on the front of the fabric. It is often called “Thread Painting” due to the wonderful detail you are able to create, much like you can with a painting. The actual technique of punch needle is closely related to rug hooking but the fineness of its appearance, and greater detail, is more appropriately described as embroidery.
Processes
In this workshop you’ll learn the basics of punch needle while working on an abstract pattern designed for this class. We will be using chunky yarn during this session. Explore the various texture options to create your finished piece. We’ll discuss different types of punch tools, fabrics, and fibers that can be used and troubleshoot common issues. Your final artwork will be turned to an instagrammable table top mirror.
This is a super satisfying fiber art that is fairly quick and easy, so it’s great for beginners!
