Jazz as we know it is a form of music, its chord voicing, syncopated rhythm, jazz scales and improvisation (or singing) are all fascinating elements of jazz. But when we want to arrange jazz music, or apply the jazz element to pop music arrangement, it's another art.
Tay Cher Siang is a Malaysian musician who graduated from West Virginia University in the United States, majoring in jazz music pedagogy under the tutelage of Dr. James Miltenberger and Professor Paul Scea. He returned to Malaysia in 2007 and has been engaged in jazz music education. He has also been active in the music stage in Malaysia and Asia, and participated in the production, arrangement, and composition of albums by many local and foreign singers. He has also published more than 20 albums, as producer, composer, arranger, music director and pianist.
This time he will come to Qactus Space to share with you some of his thoughts and experiences on jazz arranging. If you want to open up some new thinking for your own arrangement, or deepen your understanding of jazz and arrangement, welcome to listen to Master Tay Cher Siang’s sharing!
