手碟在21世纪初于瑞士所创，主要以碳钢或不锈钢制作而成，问世至今仅23年的时间，是非常年轻的新时代乐器, 其发出的声音细柔温暖，让人感觉心静疗愈。

手碟同时具备许多乐器的特性于一身，演奏者在手碟上能同时使用及演绎敲击、旋律、和弦等不同技巧，也能根据不同调性的差异和演奏者自身的音乐风格，创作出独树一帜的音乐作品。

演奏者能在订制手碟时选择乐器本身的调子，如大调、小调等，除了能更清楚的知道乐器演奏起来的感觉外，也大大降低了演奏及创作难度，非常适合没有音乐底子的朋友们作为音乐道路上的入门乐器。
