Forkbeard is back!!!
This Viking Musical Odyssey, which was tragically shut down after its dress rehearsal by the first Covid lockdown, is returning to Penang after a successful run in KL last October. 800 Penang audience members were disappointed in 2020, but now there is an opportunity not to be missed to finally see this original Broadway-bound musical drama performed by a talented cast and chorus of Penang residents.
Written and directed by Penang resident Nancy Jenster, and dramatically choreographed by award-winning Penang dance genius Aida Redza, this musical drama tells the story of two rival Viking chiefs, their ambitious wives, and the fight for Scandinavian dominance in 1000 AD.
SYNOPSIS: Forkbeard and Olav, once as close as brothers, now seek to destroy each other - over a betrayal of trust. The story spans 6 months in 1000 AD at a turning point when the Old Gods of the Norse world are facing destruction by the onslaught of the Saxon's Christian faith. The two men are pushed further towards a showdown by their respective Queens, Sigrid and Thyra. Helplessly caught in the cross-fire is a dashing and popular young archer, Einar, who loves both men as father-figures. No matter who wins the final confrontation, the quest for absolute power will destroy more than flesh and bone; it will bring the death of love for all involved in this human drama of love, hatred, hope and ambition.
