Details

Relay For Life (RFL) is a global fundraising initiative that unites communities in the fight against cancer.

Originating from a 24-hour relay event, RFL involves teams of participants who take turns walking or running around a designated track or path. The event represents the ongoing battle against cancer, with participants celebrating survivors, remembering those who have lost their lives to the disease, and raising funds for research, education, and patient support.

Typically, RFL events feature a variety of activities, entertainment, and ceremonies, including the poignant Luminaria Ceremony, where candles are lit in memory of loved ones.

The collaborative spirit of RFL fosters unity and hope, empowering communities to take collective action against cancer.

Through these events, participants not only provide financial support for cancer-related causes but also raise awareness and offer emotional support to those affected by the disease.

Luminaria is one of the key events in Relay For Life Malaysia, bringing together individuals affected by cancer in a gathering centred around the Lights of Luminaria,

When a Luminaria Light is lit, we honour someone whose life has been touched by cancer.

We gather.

We grieve.

We hope.

We celebrate.

The Light of Luminaria is our guiding light, the reason we continue to fight.

Around the world, the Luminaria event is an inseparable part of Relay For Life Malaysia, bringing people together to light these individually crafted paper bags, called Luminaria Bags, illuminated from within.

Each Luminaria represents a life, shining in remembrance, hope, or triumph — uniting everyone touched by cancer.

On the night of Luminaria, we remember how much we have lost, how much we stand to gain, and how we continue to be guided by the Luminaria Light in our journeys and in the fight against cancer.

The Luminaria Light shines for everyone, showing the way forward and uniting us in the goal of a world without cancer.
