Experience the colors and textures of Pudu in this interactive guided tour! As you complete a series of challenges, talk your way to bazaar deals, cool off with a bowl of cendol, and see your future through kao chim (fortune-telling sticks).
Places include Pudu Market, Pudu LRT Station, Jalan Pasar Bazaar, and Chong Wan Xian Shi Temple.
Participants are divided into groups and assigned tasks such as chatting with the locals, taking photographs, and shopping. Materials collected from these tasks will form the art exhibition "Sama-Sama Lukis Pudu," which opens on Sunday, October 16.
This tour begins at the Library for Social Democracy. It is conducted in English, with a limit of 15 participants. Please register in advance.
The Guides:
After her stint in a local newspaper and various personal projects, CATHERINE ONG finds herself most comfortable behind a camera capturing life, something far more exciting than practicing her Biology and Chemistry theories. When she is not taking engagement or wedding photos, she is behind the keyboard masterminding digital marketing strategies for local food businesses and startups.
SYUKRI SHAIRI finished his first leg of architectural studies at a local university in 2011. He went into practice for nearly a year before he pursued a career in writing and reporting at an alternative media company in Kuala Lumpur. Now pursuing graduate studies, Syukri hopes to bridge these two worlds — architecture and writing — with his fondness for documenting things: sketching, photography, and film-making, among others. He finds it hard to convince people that he is of Kelantanese heritage, most of the time. Syukri lives in Shah Alam, Malaysia.
HON-WAI WONG is the curator of the Library for Social Democracy.
