CHRISTOPHER PHILLIPS has an extensive career in the visual arts arena as a curator, advisor, art critic and academic. In addition to lecturing, he has been a curator at New York’s famed International Center of Photography for over 20 years, and past editor of Art in America (for which he still writes). He has organized manifold, thought-provoking exhibitions such as Between Past and Future: New Photography and Video from China (2004) and Wang Qingsong: When Worlds Collide (2011). He is also an advisor to awards committees and private collections. He will be working on four exhibitions of recent Asian photography and video in 2017-2018, to be featured at a well-known foundation’s facilities in New York City and in Ulm, Germany.
For the Luminary Pulse series, Phillips will speak on the younger artists around the world that are no longer concentrating their efforts on self-contained disciplines such as painting, sculpture, drawing, video, or photography. Instead, their art practice more and more frequently involves working simultaneously multiple mediums. Phillips will examine the work of contemporary artists whose creations take shape in a surprising array of mediums. A must attend for artists, collectors and general audiences.
